Cutera Genesis™

Cutera Genesis™ is a non-ablative laser treatment designed to provide gentle, safe, and effective skin rejuvenation. Operating in a long-pulse mode, the Genesis laser gradually heats the dermis to a therapeutic temperature without damaging the epidermis. The skin surface remains intact while deeper layers undergo collagen remodeling, vascular constriction, and modulation of sebaceous gland activity.

Because the epidermis is preserved, Genesis is one of the few laser procedures that requires virtually no downtime and can be performed year-round on all Fitzpatrick skin types.

Its mild and well-tolerated nature makes Genesis particularly suitable for patients with sensitive skin, persistent redness, rosacea, diffuse couperose, or those seeking long-term improvement in skin quality without a recovery period.

Indications

Cutera Genesis™ may be recommended for:

  • Diffuse facial redness, couperose, and erythematotelangiectatic rosacea
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone and dull complexion
  • Fine wrinkles and mild skin laxity
  • Inflammatory acne lesions
  • Post-acne erythema and residual redness
  • Hypertrophic scars as part of a comprehensive treatment plan
  • Periorbital wrinkles (“crow’s feet”)

How the Procedure Is Performed

Genesis treatment requires no special skin preparation and does not typically involve topical anesthesia.

During the procedure, the physician performs multiple rapid passes with the laser handpiece, maintaining a uniform increase in dermal temperature while avoiding overheating of individual areas.

Patients generally experience a gentle sensation of warmth accompanied by mild tingling, often described as similar to the touch of a warm hand. The treatment is considered comfortable even for individuals with highly sensitive skin.

A session for the full face usually lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.

After treatment, the skin may appear slightly pink for one to two hours before returning to its normal appearance. Makeup can be applied on the same day.

Results and Recovery

Initial Improvements

Reduction in facial redness and improvement in overall skin tone may become noticeable after two or three treatment sessions.

Enlarged pores gradually appear smaller as sebaceous gland activity becomes more balanced.

Collagen-Stimulating Effect

Progressive thickening of the dermis and subtle skin tightening generally develop over the course of treatment and become more apparent by the fourth to sixth session.

Collagen production continues for approximately two to three months after the final treatment.

Treatment Course

Genesis is typically performed as a series of treatments.

A course of six to eight sessions at intervals of two to four weeks is commonly recommended.

Its cumulative effect is particularly valuable in managing rosacea, acne, and scar remodeling.

Maintenance treatments may be performed every four to eight weeks depending on individual skin characteristics and therapeutic goals.

Duration of Results

With regular maintenance, Genesis provides long-lasting improvement in skin quality.

If treatments are discontinued, redness, enlarged pores, and other baseline concerns may gradually reappear. For this reason, Genesis is frequently incorporated into long-term skin maintenance programs.

Contraindications

Genesis treatment is generally contraindicated in patients with:

  • Active skin infections within the treatment area
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active malignancy
  • Severe coagulation disorders
  • Oral isotretinoin therapy within the previous six months
  • Uncontrolled chronic systemic diseases

A complete assessment of contraindications is performed during consultation.

Can Genesis Be Performed During Summer?

Yes.

Genesis is considered safe throughout the year and for all skin phototypes because it does not cause photosensitization and does not disrupt the epidermal barrier.

Daily sun protection remains advisable for overall skin health.

How Many Sessions Are Needed for Rosacea?

A course of four to eight treatments is typically recommended to achieve meaningful improvement in diffuse redness and vascular instability.

Many patients begin noticing changes after the second or third session.

Individuals with more pronounced couperose may require additional maintenance treatments.
