Proper preparation for plastic surgery is essential for safety, comfortable recovery, and an optimal result. It allows the surgeon and anesthesiologist to assess the patient’s health, identify possible risks, and create an individualized surgical plan. For the patient, it is an opportunity to ask all questions, reduce anxiety, and approach the procedure in the best possible physical and psychological condition.

What Preparation Includes

Surgeon Consultation

The consultation includes a detailed examination, discussion of the patient’s wishes and expectations, photographic documentation, and, if necessary, 3D modeling. The surgeon explains the surgical plan, possibilities and limitations, and potential risks. Informed consent is signed.

Laboratory Tests

Preoperative tests include a complete blood count, biochemical blood test, coagulation profile, blood type and Rh factor, tests for infections, including HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis, ECG, and chest fluorography.

For breast surgery, mammography or breast ultrasound is required. For nose surgery, CT imaging may be required. The full list of tests is provided during the consultation.

Anesthesiologist Consultation

The anesthesiologist consultation includes examination, assessment of anesthetic risk, selection of the anesthesia method, and discussion of allergies and chronic diseases. It is performed 1–7 days before surgery.

Additional Specialist Consultations

In cases of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, or thyroid disorders, consultation with a relevant specialist may be required to adjust therapy before surgery.

What the Patient Needs to Know

2–4 Weeks Before Surgery

Stop smoking.

Stop taking blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and omega-3, only in agreement with the doctor.

Have a light dinner no later than 8:00 p.m.

Do not drink alcohol.

On the Day of Surgery

Do not eat or drink for 6–8 hours before anesthesia.

Take prescribed medications with a small sip of water.

Arrive at the clinic at the scheduled time with documents and test results.

Do not apply makeup, nail polish, or perfume.

The Iskusstvo Clinic Approach

At Iskusstvo Clinic, preparation for surgery is organized as a comfortable step-by-step process. A coordinator supports the patient at every stage, from scheduling tests to the day of surgery. All examinations can be completed in one place. The anesthesiologist performs the preoperative assessment in advance. The surgeon is available for additional questions by phone or messenger.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Does Preparation Take?

As a rule, preparation takes 1–2 weeks. This includes time for tests, usually 1–3 days, receiving results, usually 2–5 days, and the anesthesiologist consultation, which requires one visit.

Can I Have My Tests Done at Another Clinic?

Yes. Results from certified laboratories are accepted. It is important that standard test results are no older than 14 days, and chest fluorography results are no older than 30 days.

Is It Mandatory to Stop Smoking?

It is strongly recommended to stop smoking 2–4 weeks before and after surgery. Smoking impairs microcirculation, slows healing, and increases the risk of complications.

Psychological preparation is no less important than physical preparation. The patient should have realistic expectations of the result. The surgeon honestly explains what can and cannot be achieved. Anxiety before surgery is natural; Iskusstvo Clinic creates a supportive atmosphere in which the patient feels in reliable hands. In cases of significant anxiety, the anesthesiologist may prescribe mild premedication on the day of surgery.

Book a consultation. The surgeon will create an individualized preparation plan and answer all your questions.
